Rasul Mud

The Rasul is a superb treatment based upon Moorish principles of mud bathing and also the Hammam ritual.
In the Rasul treatment, the bather is provide with a range of natural mineral mud’s which have a varying degree of abrasiveness to them. The lightest is virtually free from abrasives and is for the face, the the next mud is applied to the arms, a separate mud for the torso, then finally the most abrasive for the legs.
The abrasiveness is created with the addition of silica particles of varying sizes, and this acts as a natural exfoliant on the skin, whilst the mud draws out impurities and toxins.

Beauty Colleges

The educational market has become increasingly important to Dalesauna over the past six or seven years, as we have been involved in many of the new spa developments within beauty colleges.

The NVQ Level 3 in Spa Therapy requires colleges to operate a fully equipped spa with the minimum equipment levels of sauna, steam room, spa pool, dry floatation, some form of coolling the body, (usually ice or a cold shower) and a relaxation area.

Some colleges have gone further and included other facilities such as a Rasul mud treatment room, Aromatherapy Room or Hammam.

The first such spa was installed at Buxton Campus for Derby University who were the first university in the country to offer a degree in Spa Management.

Since then, Dalesauna have supplied many colleges throughout the UK and can advise any new or prospective college operators on what is required and the best way to achieve their goals.

Did you know that a good movement of air through the steam room is essential to keep the room full of steam.

If there is not enough air moving through the room, this can “trick” the thermostat into thinking it has reached temperature and the steam generator stops producing steam.

You may have noticed that the volume of steam is less when the facility is at its quietest i.e. in off peak periods, and this is usually down to the simple fact that the door is not being opened and closed as often as high peak times.

Always make sure that the vent in the ceiling of the room is open and has not been closed off by members, as this will also affect the volume of steam.

Farewell “Chatters”

Sadly we have said goodbye to Sarah Chatten after several years with Dalesauna. Sarah has gone off to pastures new, to further develop her career and we all wish her well.

Sadly, that means no more “Chatters Chatter”, and so to keep things moving along I have stepped up to the plate !

Did you know that most people think adding water to the sauna heater makes it hotter, when in actual fact, all this does is raise the humidity giving the feeling of increased temperature, when in factthe temperature is lowered.

Too much water will only reduce the temperature and cause the sauna heater to work harder to maintain the set temperature.

Some tips for looking after your sauna . . .

Never use a disinfectant for cleaning inside a sauna unless approved by the manufacturer as some disinfectant can cause respiratory problems when the sauna heats up.

Never use wood stain or varnish for the same reason.

To maintain the sauna it is best to use a soap and water solution to wash down benches on a weekly basis, but don’t over do the use of water as this will only rot the timber.
